Dealer strategies for buying out of state

Planning on getting a new or lightly used Malibu, and I've been talking to a couple of out of state dealers who seem to be offering better deals than anything local, the numbers are looking quite good but what is the smart play with taxes, paperwork, and registration, like what do I need to know and do or don't
Another question is do I handle registration and sales tax back in my home state, or will the dealer collect it up front? really don't want to run into troubles

As far as I know, you usually pay taxes and register in your home state. But there are some dealers who can collect it for you depending on the state. What you just need to double check is that they don't tack on extra fees you don't actually need.
